Nedlloyd and APL, have agreed to participate in a pilot of Global Trade, a system for putting together trade deals over the
internet, operated by CCEWeb Corporation.
The. pilot has already begun, leading to a commercial launch scheduled for Autumn
2001. The system is geared
towards bringing together buyers, sellers, financial institutes, carriers,
freight forwarders and surveyors on the same electronic page, and putting together the
transaction. “The benefits that we
foresee accruing to P&O Nedlloyd from participating in the CCEWeb System |
are productivity improvements for data entry to our internal system;
encouragement for our participating customers in the use of waybills instead of Bills of Lading; and automated and timely
collection of revenues,” says P.J.F. Burrows, general manager marketing
systems for P&O Nedlloyd. The system makes it
possible for a letter of credit to be issued over the internet. A buyer can
verify electronically that mer- chanidise has been shipped on time and in the quantities and condition
as agreed between buyer and seller. There should be no need to pay cash in
advance and no delays caused by discrepancies in paper-based processing. |
